Description

The European Cluster Collaboration Platform, in collaboration with Energy Cluster Denmark, organises the next edition of the Cluster Collaboration Labs in Esbjerg, Denmark, on 6-7 May 2025. This time, the focus will be on the energy transition. Together with our host, we will discuss project ideas on fostering the clean energy transition, clean technologies, and recycling, as well as the linkages to digital solutions, among others smart energy and cybersecurity.

The C2Lab is a workshop-style event where you will have the opportunity to meet new partners, discuss your project ideas, and initiate collaboration – for example, to apply together for a European call. Participants could either join with a concrete project proposal or offer their expertise and knowledge by joining others.

Who can attend?

The C2Lab is for companies, cluster organisations, research organisations, actors from civil society, and other entities interested in joining European project consortia. It is open to participants from the European Union and the SMP/COSME countries.

What are the topics of the C2Lab?

As a starting point for the joint project creation, we propose the following all six overarching challenges for the working groups. Each topic can cover different aspects that can be discussed:

  1. Clean energy transition
  • Green Hydrogen Corridors and international supply chain for green hydrogen.
  • Renewable Microgrids and decentralized energy hubs.
  • Partnerships to enhance efficiency in offshore wind projects
  • Joint ventures to transition heavy industry to low-carbon solutions.
  • Collaborative models for energy-efficient energy storage technologies.
  1. Clean technologies
  • AI-Powered Energy Efficiency to optimize industrial energy consumption.
  • Integrated carbon capture and storage solutions.
  • Sustainable alternatives to traditional industrial chemicals.
  • Energy-efficient heating and cooling technologies.
  • Partnerships to recover and reuse rare-earth elements from e-waste.
  1. Recycling
  • Urban mining for critical materials and waste management companies to recover valuable metals.
  • Digital platforms for tracking recycled materials.
  • Bioplastic reuse and recycling.
  • AI to improve sorting efficiency in recycling plants.
  • Retailers and logistics firms partnering about reusable packaging systems.
  1. Smart energy
  • Decentralized energy trading models for communities.
  • Machine learning for real-time electricity demand management.
  • Aggregating distributed energy resources for grid stability.
  • Optimizing energy storage and redistribution from electric vehicles.
  • IoT companies for automated energy savings.
  1. Digitalisation
  • Simulations to optimize clean energy systems.
  • Real-time data for better energy distribution.
  • Reducing downtime in renewable energy infrastructure.
  • Transparency in renewable energy transactions.
  • Digital tools for upskilling in the energy transition.
  1. Cybersecurity
  • Stronger grid resilience through AI-driven monitoring.
  • Preventing cyber threats in connected energy systems.
  • Secure authentication in energy markets.
  • Future-proofing renewable energy systems against cyberattacks.
  • Public-private partnerships for real-time energy threat sharing.

How does the C2Lab work?

The C2Lab is a co-creation space and counts on your active participation. The aim is to mature project ideas for the indicated challenges in discussions with the other participants and build a proposal together. The work initiated at the C2Lab should be further implemented after the lab itself. For the work at the lab, we will provide you with a project canvas and facilitators to help and guide the process.

  1. Register, choose a challenge, and set up your profile

When registering for the event on the B2Match platform, participants will choose a challenge they want to work on. Alternatively, they will have the option to present their own project idea and pitch it to the other participants.

  1. Share your offers in the marketplace

Participants will indicate what kind of ideas and capabilities they can offer for new projects and what kind of projects they are looking for. These will be published in the marketplace where all participants will be able to browse what the others bring to the table.

  1. Request meetings (“Long Term Matchmaking”)

Attendees will invite other participants to preparatory meetings to speak about collaboration opportunities, which will be further explored at the C2Lab. These meetings will take place online on the B2Match platform between registration and the in-person workshop.

  1. Join the online pitching session

An online pitching session will be held where participants will introduce themselves personally to the other participants. This will be an additional opportunity to meet prospective project partners.

  1. In-person C2Lab

Participants will meet in Esbjerg on 6-7 May 2025. Based on challenge selection, participants will join the respective working group to initiate their project ideas with peers. Each working group will be guided by a facilitator. Within the groups, participants will develop their project proposals by discussing the main elements of every project:

  • Common goals
  • Objectives and scope of the project
  • Target groups
  • Activities, deliverables and milestones
  • Risks and assumptions

The goal will be to have a project roadmap at the end of the C2Lab that the teams will be able to further implement and bring to a public call or alternative funding opportunities. At the end of the discussions, next steps for collaboration will be defined.
